Our university is located in city of Beijing area. The campus covers 1,140,000 square meters and lies in the north of the city. Six kinds of education are offered: general high education, state-owned privately run education, adult education, vocational education, online education and international students education. The university enrolls undergraduate, graduate and master as well as postgraduate students. There are 16 teaching departments, 98 teaching offices, 56 teaching laboratories, 4 affiliated comprehensive hospitals and 169 bases for teaching and practice. The university`s curriculum comprises 21 specialized undergraduate subjects, 32 master degree programs and 1 doctor degree program. Among the faculty members there are 823 full-time teachers, 74 of whom have been granted a doctoral degree, 533 associate professors and 219 professors and chief doctors. The university`s library has an advanced electronic reading room and has access to the retrieval system for medical documents from the American MEDLINE and the Chinese Medical Institute.

The total number of students has amounted to 13,806 of which 190 are international students, all of whom are currently studying in the undergraduate program taught in English. Furthermore, the university is actively involved in international academic exchange activities with universities abroad, such as the UK University and regularly exchanges scholars and specialists to give lectures. About 120 teachers have been sent to more than 20 countries to study and involve in research.

The university has developed into an academic center, housing teaching buildings, research laboratories, a library which is both an architectural and cultural icon, a theatre building, sports arena, swimming centre and student’s activity centers having 600,000 square meters of floor space and over 200, 000 square meters of landscaped gardens. Other services such as the school hospital, comfortable accommodations and a number of dining halls are also provided. The university has 1,600 staff, 900 of which are academic, and boasts an attendance of more than 20,000 students. While focusing on engineering disciplines, the scope has been enhanced with curricula covering such areas as science, management and liberal arts. The university has 44 disciplines for undergraduate study, 50 disciplines for master degrees, and joint programs for PhDs. The degrees are recognized around the world. Our university prides itself on its practical teaching system which includes basic, professional and general practice. There are numerous first-rate labs for the students, some at national level. We are also proud of its Aircraft Maintenance Center, which is the only one in China approved by the China Civil Aviation Authority to issue licenses to maintain helicopters. Authorization of fixed-wing aircraft maintenance licenses is anticipated soon. There are 20 aircrafts provided for the students to practice with on the campus. We have established cooperation with many companies and institutes including Aero-engine Group Corporation, the Aircraft Corporation, and has developed a network of 50 partnerships to provide practical training opportunities both inside and outside the campus. During its 60 years, about 50,000 students have graduated from the university, with numerous students achieving high honors. Our graduates historically have had a very high employment rate with around 90% being employed soon after graduation. Internationalization is one of the characteristics. The university has established cooperative agreements with more than 80 universities and companies from around the world. It has an active exchange program for both teachers and students. The university employs a number of foreign teachers who contribute to both the academic and cultural life of the school community. At present, there are over 380 international students studying Aircraft Manufacture, Aerospace Propulsion Theory and Engineering, International Business and Chinese Culture. These students, with their diverse cultural backgrounds, contribute to the broad international focus of the university.

University Information

Our university is located in a largest city in Central China – a famous “River City”. The university has three main campuses, namely, the Mafan Campus, the Yutou Campus and the South Lake new Campus, with a total occupying land area of 267 hectares.  It was merged on May 27th 2000, from the former University of Technology (established in 1948), a Transportation University (established in 1946) and an Automotive Polytechnic University (established in 1958). Our university is one of the leading Chinese universities accredited by the Ministry of Education and one of the universities constructed in priority by the “State 211 Project” for Chinese higher education institutions. Currently, we have about 5,500 staff members, including 675 professors, 3 academicians of China Academy of Engineering and 2 academicians of China Academy of Science. The University owns 25 academic schools, 10 state key disciplines, 74 Doctoral programs, 135 Master’s programs as well as 82 Bachelor’s programs. Besides, over 36,700 undergraduates, 16000 postgraduates (including Master and PhD students), and 570 international students are studying in our university. The university possesses 23 innovative research centers with international leading level including two State Key Laboratories, a State Engineering Laboratory and provincial or ministerial level laboratories in the areas of new materials, new energy, transportation and logistics, mechatronics and automobile, information technology as well as resources and environmental technology. Meanwhile, the University has established its Science Park in the Optical Valley, covering an area of 58.7 hectares, where it has incubated and fostered more than 6 high-tech enterprises based on new materials, fiber optical sensors, high-speed shipping, new energy technology and advanced manufacturing. In 2011, the total revenue of the Science Park reached RMB1.9 billion. The university has formed three important Boards of Directors with the industrial sectors of building materials and construction industry, transportation industry and automobile industry, totally covering 202 large backbone enterprises. The Boards of Directors hold annual meetings regularly to discuss the important issues concerning the mutual development between the university and the three industrial sectors. In 2006 and 2007, the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and the Ministry of Education made a joint approval of establishing a state base in our university for discipline innovation and talent import in the field of advanced materials technology and high-speed shipping technology. In 2008, the Ministry of Science and Technology approved our university to establish an internationally joint research center for advanced materials technology. In 2009, The university-Harvard Joint Key Laboratory was set up with professor of Harvard University, inventor of international nano materials and fellow of American Academy of Science as the director. In 2011, Thermoelectric Materials Research Team entered China-US Clean Energy Joint Research Centre.
